Wuu-rri Microgrant Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Who can apply?

Applications are open to:

  • Indigenous individuals

  • Indigenous youth entrepreneurs

  • Indigenous-controlled organisations, including businesses, not-for-profits and Indigenous Chambers of Commerce

  • Organisations delivering programs that support Indigenous youth entrepreneurship.

Non-Indigenous organisations may apply if their initiative directly benefits Indigenous youth and aligns with the purpose of the program.

What age group is considered 'youth'?

For this program, youth generally refer to people aged 16–30 years, although some flexibility may apply depending on the circumstances of the initiative.

How much funding can I apply for?

You can apply for up to $5,000 per initiative.

What can the grant be used for?

The grant can be used to support activities that strengthen Indigenous entrepreneurship and business capability.

Examples include:

  • launching a new business idea or social enterprise

  • training or workshops focused on entrepreneurship

  • mentoring programs connecting young people with business leaders

  • school-based programs introducing students to Indigenous business

  • events that promote Indigenous entrepreneurship

  • business skills training such as financial literacy, marketing or proposal writing.

What can the grant NOT be used for?

The grant is not intended for routine operational costs, such as wages or ongoing business expenses, unless specifically approved.

Funds must be used for the initiative described in the approved application.

When are applications open?

Applications are open year-round, and there are no fixed deadlines.

Applications are reviewed throughout the year as funding becomes available.

How are applications assessed?

Applications are reviewed by an independent assessment panel and assessed against four criteria:

  • Initiative Alignment & Purpose

  • Impact & Community Benefit

  • Feasibility & Planning

  • Innovation & Creativity

Strong applications clearly explain the idea, how the funding will be used, and the difference the initiative will make.

When will I hear if my application is successful?

Applicants will be notified in writing once their application has been reviewed.

Timeframes may vary depending on the number of applications received and available funding.

What happens if I receive a grant?

Successful applicants will:

  1. Sign a Funding Agreement

  2. Receive the approved funding

  3. Deliver their initiative

  4. Provide a short outcome report at the end of the project.

What does the report involve?

The report is short and simple. It usually includes:

  • what you did with the funding

  • what outcomes you achieved

  • how the initiative benefited Indigenous youth

  • photos or videos if available.

This helps Wuu-rri share the success of the program and demonstrate its impact.
